Uno de los firmes propósitos que persigue la educación que impartimos en Caxton College tiene que ver con que nuestros alumnos asuman una voz propia para que puedan enfrentarse con seguridad a la vida académica y profesional.
Esa voz interior, unipersonal e intransferible, será su mejor tarjeta de visita porque marcará la diferencia en los planteamientos que desarrolle en su vida laboral y también social. Por eso les ayudamos a que sus voces se nutran de ideas precursoras para que saquen sus propias conclusiones y finalmente desarrollen una personalidad bien formada y capaz de reflexionar por sí misma.
La voz que infundimos a nuestros alumnos quiere ser creativa, inédita y portentosa, recogiendo y valorando nuestra herencia histórica para que sean capaces de reinterpretarla e incluso reinventarla con ideas renovadoras enfocadas hacia el bien común social.
Un buen ejemplo práctico de cómo esa línea educativa toma vuelo en nuestras aulas, lo podemos ver en este catálogo (pinche aquí) que nace con motivo de la exposición artística “Voices from Within” (Voces del interior) que, un año más, el departamento de Arte y el departamento de Comunicación ponen en pie derrochando ilusión. El principal motivo de esta muestra artística es el de exhibir las obras más destacadas que los alumnos de Year 11, 12 y 13 han desarrollado a lo largo del año en sus clases de Arte.
En estas producciones todos los alumnos han seguido referentes y sugerencias técnicas, pero queda patente que ha habido un momento en el que han tenido que ser valientes, escuchar su voz interior y tomar decisiones a partir de un lenguaje propio en el que creen. Así mismo los diferentes discursos que cada uno de estos jóvenes artistas ha trabajado vienen marcados por las tensiones propias de esa naturaleza juvenil que con intensidad explora, cuestiona y somete a prueba la realidad que les toca vivir.
Quizá muchos de los integrantes de esta muestra artística no profundicen más adelante en las artes plásticas y tomen caminos profesionales diferentes. Pero lo que sí tienen garantizado es que una voz individual y creativa va a sonar con asertividad en cualquier campo al que se incorporen.
Sus trabajos son una inspiración para el colegio por lo que queremos seguir impulsando y divulgando el talento creativo, la investigación, la reflexión y la formación de voces diferenciadoras y únicas. De ese modo, al referirnos a nuestros alumnos podremos entonar unos versos del poeta madrileño Pedro Salinas, incluidos en su poemario “La luz a ti debida”, que dicen así:
“Sé que cuando te llame / entre todas las gentes / del mundo, / sólo tú serás tú”.

One of the underlying aims of the education we provide at Caxton College is to help our students find their own voice, so that later on, as adults, they can deal confidently with anything they may meet in their academic and professional lives.
This inner voice, unique and non-transferrable, could be their best quality in the future, as it can mean the difference in the approach they take, both professionally and personally. For this reason, we help to nurture their voices with forward-thinking ideas, teach them how to draw their own conclusions, and finally develop into well-formed individuals, capable of thinking for themselves.
The voice which we would like to inspire in our students is creative, original and has something important to say; capable of capturing and analysing our heritage and then reinterpreting it, even reinventing the past with fresh, innovative ideas, with a focus on the common good.
A good practical example of how this educational ideal comes to life in our classrooms can be seen in this catalogue (click here to see the catalogue), designed to accompany the art exhibition “Voices from Within” which, once again, the Art Department and the Communications Department have put together with great enthusiasm. The main reason for this artistic display is to share with you the most outstanding works that students from Years 11, 12 and 13 have developed throughout the year in their Art classes.
In all the works produced here, the students have followed references and technical suggestions, but obviously there comes a moment when an artist has to be brave, listen to their inner voice and decide to find their own language in which to express themselves. In addition, the different creations that each of these young artists has produced are all marked by the tensions that are a part of the very youth that leads them to explore, question and experiment with the real world around them.
It is possible that many of the participants in this exhibition will not continue to develop their artistic skills in the future, and will follow different professional paths. But of one thing they can be sure: that their individual and creative voice will assert itself in any field in which they choose to work.
Their works are an inspiration for the school, which is why we will continue to promote and disseminate their creative talent, research, reflection and the forming of these unique, discerning voices. Thus, when we refer to our students, we may quote a few lines by the Madrid poet Pedro Salinas, from his poetry collection “La Luz a ti Debida” (The Light Because of You”), which reads as follows:
“I know that when I call you / Among all the people / of the World, / Only You will be You”.
