Nuestro alumno de Year 9, Gonzalo R., ha sido seleccionado por la Universidad de Ciencias Matemáticas para participar en el proyecto ESTALMAT de la Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales.

Este proyecto trata la detección, orientación y estímulo del talento matemático de estudiantes de 12 y 13 años sin extraerlos de su entorno. La metodología consiste en seleccionar, cada año, a 25 jóvenes en su respectiva comunidad autónoma, mediante una prueba de aptitud y una entrevista personal para asistir posteriormente a diversas sesiones de estímulo del talento matemático una vez por semana durante dos cursos académicos.

Tal y como explica Gonzalo, que admite estar tremendamente ilusionado por haber sido seleccionado, “es una oportunidad única para disfrutar de las matemáticas combinadas con otras materias como por ejemplo la física, siempre desde una perspectiva aplicada”.

Para cumplir con este objetivo, los alumnos asisten a sesiones regulares de tres horas de duración, fuera del horario escolar, destinadas a fomentar su vocación científica y el gusto por el descubrimiento, en particular el descubrimiento matemático.

A Student from Caxton College is selected to take part in the ESTALMAT Project

One of our Year 9 students, Gonzalo R, has been selected by the University of Mathematical Sciences to take part in the ESTALMAT Project at the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences.

This project is set up to detect, guide and stimulate mathematical talent in students of 12 to 13 years old without removing them from their place of study. Every year, a group of 25 young people is selected from their respective autonomous Communities, by means of an aptitude test and a personal interview, after which they will then attend various weekly sessions designed to stimulate their mathematical talent, over the course of two school years.

As explained by Gonzalo, who admits being enormously excited about his selection, “it is a unique opportunity to enjoy mathematics combined with other subjects such as physics, always from an applied perspective”.

To meet with this objective, the students attend regular three-hourly sessions, outside of school hours, aimed at fostering their scientific vocation and interest in discovery, particularly in the field of mathematics.
