Durante el mes de noviembre, estamos llevando a cabo en toda nuestra comunidad escolar una colecta de alimentos para refugiados ucranianos en Valencia a través de una organización que se llama Help Ukraine Valencia. Varios miembros del personal del colegio ya colaboran como voluntarios con esta asociación, que nos ha recordado la importancia de estas donaciones. Entre ellos está nuestra coordinadora del departamento de Chemistry en Secundaria, Ms Stephanie Boyko, hija de una familia ucraniana que todavía tiene familiares allí y quien ha querido repetir esta iniciativa que ya llevamos a cabo en el pasado mes de julio.

Algunos mensajes de los refugiados ucranianos beneficiarios de nuestra colecta de alimentos fueron:

“Fue increíblemente duro y aterrador dejar nuestra casa cuando escuchamos las primeras explosiones. Con solo dos mochilas, nos dirigimos hacía España donde hemos encontrado a gente maravillosa que nos ha dado la oportunidad de empezar de cero. El centro nos ha apoyado con comida, ropa y juguetes para los niños. Muchas gracias a toda la gente que ayuda con sus donaciones”.

“Tuvimos que huir de los combates y la violencia de las tropas rusas en Bucha, dejando atrás a mi marido y familia y no sé si los volveremos a ver. Pero gracias al centro, hemos recibido comida y ropa. Estamos muy agradecidos a toda la gente que nos ha abierto sus corazones”.

En el colegio contamos con personal y estudiantes muy relacionados tanto con Rusia como con Ucrania y que viven muy de cerca todas las noticias relacionadas con la guerra, con la esperanza de que termine cuanto antes.

Desde la organización, nos indican que entre los alimentos necesarios están pasta, arroz, aceite, avena, latas, café, leche y galletas. Ms Boyko ha animado a toda la comunidad a realizar cualquier donación, por pequeña que sea, para intentar ayudar en lo que podamos a este colectivo en nuestra ciudad.

During the month of November, we are collecting food items from the members of our educational community to support Ukrainian refugees in Valencia through the organisation Help Ukraine Valencia. Several members of staff have already worked to support this charity, which has expressed how vital donations are to helping these families. Among the volunteers is Ms Stephanie Boyko, Head of Chemistry in Secondary, whose family is from Ukraine and who still has family members living there. She wished to organise another collection like the one we already held at school in July.

“It was incredibly hard and scary to leave our home when we heard the first explosions. With just two backpacks we fled to Spain and have met incredibly wonderful people who have given us the chance to rebuild our lives from scratch. The centre has supported us all this time with food, clothes, toys, home items and kindness. Huge thanks to all the people who have donated and helped!”

“We had to flee the fighting and violence from Russian troops in Bucha which meant leaving behind my family and husband. We do not know when we will see them again. We have received help with food and clothes from the centre and we will be eternally grateful for this! In Spain we have met lovely people who have reached out and have the kindest hearts”

We have students and staff at Caxton who come from both Ukraine and Russia and whose families live there. They live each day affected by the terrible situation in these countries, in the hope that the war will soon end.

The organisation has indicated that they need basic and essential foods such as pasta, rice, cooking oil, oats, tinned food (eg, vegetables. legumes, tuna), milk, coffee, biscuits and crackers. Ms Boyko has encouraged all the members of our community to contribute, no matter how small the donation, to help this group in our city.
